"In Her Own Fashion" tells -- in her own words -- the true story of Ninette Griffith, a smart, sassy, elegantly ambitious woman who was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1913. Ninette had an eyebrow-raising love affair (or two) in the 1930s, a high-ranking military husband in the 1940s, a high-profile fashion career in the 1950s, and an opinion on everything from the Civil War (her grandfather fought in it) to blue jeans for women ("I designed them and sold them before Calvin Klein was born").
Storyteller Dolores Hydock collected Ninette's stories in a series of interviews. In over 18 months of almost-weekly visits, Ninette shared the stories of a life that nearly spanned the 20th century. She was a sassy college girl during the Depression, a military wife in the 1940s, a career woman in the 1950s, and a born storyteller her entire life.
These stories bring to life Ninette's hilarious and touching tales of reckless romance, celebrity high-jinks, career blunders, and the adventures of a life that followed no one else's pattern.
Event begins at 7 pm. Light refreshments at 6 pm.
