The lecture begins at 5:45 pm in The Library Theatre, with the reception to follow. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Multi-disciplinary artist Tony M. Bingham lives and works in Birmingham, AL. Through his found and original audio work, large-scale photography and sculpture, Bingham references various sites which offer opportunities to consider African-American lifeways and ways of memorializing. Bingham received a BA in Communications from Antioch College, an MA in Film and Community Media from Goddard College and an MFA from Georgia State University. In 2024, he was awarded the Southern Prize and Alabama Fellowship for Visual Arts from South Arts. Bingham taught humanities and studio art at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama from 2006-2024.
“I often wonder if materials hold memory. Do walls and floors “remember” who touched them or walked and danced along their polished planks? I pose this question to myself as I consider an approach to art based in an examination of history, or histories. As an African American artist, my practice is dedicated to discovering the legacies and experiences of black folks in the rural southern region of the United States, stories and experiences not typically considered part of the American story.” - Tony Bingham
